Inauguration of the new clubhouse
“It has become a beautiful home,” says Freund at the inauguration ceremony including the season opening and open day.*
Inauguration of new clubhouse:
The time when making makeshift repairs to holes in the roof and removing water from the hut were part of routine work are now over. “It was already in the process of rotting,” says Freund about the old wooden hut. It was clear to the Ruppertshain tennis players that something had to be done. But for a long time everything wasn't done right. Freund estimates that TVR was “pregnant” with the new building idea for six years. The club had “lofty plans,” the 43-year-old remembers. However, these would not have stood up to closer scrutiny.
The new building project cost around 230,000 euros. 56,000 euros from the city, 50,000 from the state, 19,000 from the district and 8,000 euros from the state sports association flowed into the overall budget. The club's treasury covered the rest. It was a joint effort to complete the project, says treasurer Schmidt-Falk, who is happy that the construction work, which began with the demolition of the old building in October 2011, has now been completed. In addition to the completely rebuilt clubhouse, which now offers around a third more space, a new stone floor was laid around the hut and part of the green area was rebuilt. Our member and architect Hanns Schempp planned and supervised the construction.
The biggest advantage is that both genders now have their own changing and shower facilities. There is also enough storage space under the roof and behind the kitchen, which the club previously lacked. A solar thermal system financed by the city provides warm water. The work on the house has now been completed except for small details, so that the TVR members can already use their new home. “It should just be a nice place to get together,” says Freund happily.
According to Freund, around 200 members, around half of whom are children and young people, are registered with the club. The club boss does not speculate that the TVR will gain new people through the new clubhouse. It's just important to him that everyone feels welcome and comfortable here, says Thilo Freund.
